Transom Seats
Sun Shine 38' (1989) transom seats
Hi folks
Among lots of improvements on my boat, this recently made transom seats seem to be one of the best.
I always felt that the transom back seats you find on most of the American yachts are very comfortable.
All you need: 9 meters of 1'' brushed 316(!) stainless steel pipe (mine is 1.5 mm thick), 2 welding arches, 2 rosettes (terminal fitting with moving cover to hide through glass bolts), 6 stainless = 5 cm.long x 6 mm.dia bolts. No need for explanations, just watch the pictures.
A good welder with some basic curving tools will do the job in 7-8 working hours. Drill 7 mm holes for the supporting legs bolts and add 17 mm wood plate to enforce. It comes just inside the cockpit lockers.
Main idea: form two arches, one on the bottom will carry the plastic seat (the one you see is very comfortable), the top one will limit the decline way of the seat and protect from further movement. The only peace of stainless pipe you cut away from your boat's railing is where the upper arch gets welded. Don't throw it away. It serves as the support leg under the seat.
It's great and somehow upgrade your cockpit .You will never believe where two disturbing persons just vanished and left a clear free cockpit. Forward sight gain huge improvement. The whole rail system becomes much more solid now.
To my taste, it is cheap and worth every penny. Only Sun Shine? No, any same basic railing will fit.
Will be more than happy to assist.
