The new plate has a hoop welded to it along the long edges of the plate. The hoop is formed to loop around the center rib of the stock stem fitting and is also bent around the stem towards the masthead. The head stay and the base of the furler are attached to the eye of the hoop and this repositions the furler to an "above deck" location.
